Do you have samples?
Yes, we sell premium samples as we feel this is the best way to trial a product before committing to buy the full sized product.
Samples are $0.95 each for all products except Serums and Nectars each. Shipping for samples is $5.95.

Does La Mav test on animals?
No. La Mav is proud to be a member of Choose Cruelty Free (CCF) - an independent Australian organisation that accredits skin, body and toiletry products and is strictly against animal testing. We do not use any animal ingredient in our range. We only conduct research and testing on human volunteers and ourselves.
What are antioxidants?
Antioxidants are compounds that protect (and neutralizes) free radical cell damage that leads to premature ageing or even cancer. Free radicals are produced in the skin by many environmental stresses mainly pollution and UV rays. La Mav products are full of Anti-oxidants (which makes them perfect anti-ageing products along with many other anti-ageing properties).
Why don’t La Mav products contain any sunscreen?
La Mav products are for use morning and night whereas a sunscreen should be used every 3 hours depending on the SPF factor. We strongly recommend using Mineral Makeup that provides a light physical barrier over La Mav products.
What is pH?
The pH is a potential of Hydrogen, which ranges from 0 to 14 and the pH scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is.
The pH of a healthy skin is slightly acidic and averages about 5.4-6 (Source – PubMed). The acidic environment of skin protects it from overgrowth of microorganisms (natural flora of the skin). When this balance is broken the skin becomes alkaline which can lead to overgrowth of bacteria causing skin breakouts, redness, infection, dryness or flakiness. The pH level of all La Mav products falls between 5 – 6.

This makes our Anti-ageing range unique and suitable for all skin types. As with any new product, if your skin is sensitive we recommend doing a patch test before using any product.

How should I store La Mav products?
La Mav products should be stored below 25°C in a dry environment. Protect from direct sunlight. Do not store below 5°C. It is advised not to store La Mav products in the cars as high temperatures reached in the cars can affect the quality of the natural products.
What is the shelf life of La Mav products?
La Mav products have an unopened shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture. The expiry date is printed on each product. The product should be used within 6 months after opening.
The airless pump mechanism of my product doesn’t seem to work, what do I do?
The airless pump dispensers work on an airless pump mechanism. Sometimes an air bubble is formed at the time of packaging, which can block the pumping mechanism. We apologise in advance if this happens and the container can be unblocked by following these simple steps:
o Remove the silver base of the container.
o Remove the lid and unscrew the actuator so that the product level is clearly visible
o Very gently push upwards from below until product reaches close to the neck leaving enough space for the actuator
o Screw the actuator normally and pump as normal
o If you are experiencing any further difficulties please call us on 1300 0LA MAV.

How do I unblock my airless pump dispenser?
If not used for a long time the actuator tip of airless pump dispenser can become blocked. If this happens simply unblock it with a clean needle.
Where do all the ingredients come from?
Our ingredients come from a variety of certified organic sources (natural origin) and are extracted by natural processing aids for example cold press extraction process, steam distillation etc. We have strict in-house quality control specifications for each ingredient that the vendor has to meet in order to secure our order. This ensures that our ingredients are safe for the environment and us.

Why La Mav does not use Aqua or Water in any of their products?
We believe in incorporating maximum therapeutic ingredients in our products. We use Certified Organic Hydrosols as a substitute for water that is used as a vehicle or base in all of our skin care range. The hydrosols possess the same therapeutic and medicinal properties as their counterpart essential oils.
How can I avoid these chemicals in skincare products?
Read the labels very carefully and only choose those products that do not contain any of the prohibitive chemicals. Secondly for your own peace of mind look for the seal of various certification bodies on the labels.

Where can I get more information about other chemicals that are harmful for our skin and/or body?
Why are artificial colours or fragrances bad for the skin?
Skin care products should not contain artificial/synthetic fragrances or colours as they have no therapeutic value. Many fragrances are produced from ingredients that are cheap and known to be toxic or carcinogenic. Skin is the largest organ of the body. Anything you put on it can be easily absorbed through the pores. When you use skin care products, they are applied all over the face, neck, and body. This covers a lot of surface area and, therefore, a great deal of chemical absorption occurs (Source – www.ewg.org). They are commonly known to cause allergies and sensitivities.

What are Polyethylene Glycols?
Polyethylene Glycols are used as synthetic emulsifiers, humectants, cleansing agents or surfactants in conventional skincare products e.g. Baby Lotions, Deodorants, Moisturisers, Anti-Itch Creams, Lip Balms etc. These compounds are potentially carcinogenic petroleum ingredients that can alter and reduce the skin's natural moisture factor. Could increase the appearance of ageing and leave you more vulnerable to bacteria. They are known irritants and cause delayed hypersensitivities and contact dermatitis. They are also found to be contaminated with the impurities e.g. 1,4-dioxane, heavy metals e.g. arsenic, lead which are linked to causing cancer (Source – www.ewg.org). The PEG compounds can also open the pores of the skin allowing the toxins and microorganisms to enter the skin causing acne.
What are Petrochemicals and why are they not good for our skin?
Petrochemicals (like mineral oil, petrolatum, petroleum jelly, liquid paraffin) are a by-product of the petroleum industry, it comes from crude oil and is used in products as an emollient, giving a "slip and slide" property to a product. They are used in personal care products such as lipsticks, lubricants, baby massage oils etc because they are incredibly cheap. Also used by industry as metal-cutting fluid (Source - www.ewg.org).
Petrochemicals contain cancer-causing contaminants also known as carcinogens. Furthermore, mineral oil prevents the skin from "breathing when applied." As such, it clogs pores, interferes with your skin's natural ability to eliminate toxins, and can lead to acne flare-ups. Also, it is irritating to the skin and if used for any length of time, your skin can become dependent on it, causing chapping and dryness. Lastly, it can lead to premature ageing of the skin.
1,4-Dioxane is another petroleum-derived carcinogenic compound that is used intentionally in dry cleaning solvents, lacquers and automotive coolant. 1,4-Dioxane also shows up in personal care products because it is the byproduct of some chemical ingredient manufacturing processes, including the process by which sodium lauryl sulfate becomes sodium laureth sulfate (Source – www.safecosmetics.org).

What are Parabens and why are they harmful?
Parabens are a group of chemicals that are known as synthetic preservatives in many conventional cosmetic products so that their products can have a long shelf life. Common parabens include methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben and ethylparaben. The reason is purely economical. However, studies suggest that they may cause cancer and interfere with the body’s endocrine system, as well as causing allergic reactions and skin rashes. Parabens are absorbed through intact skin and from the gastrointestinal tract and blood. U.K. researchers found measurable concentrations of six different parabens in 20 human breast tumors. The study highlights the need for more research on the potential link between products containing parabens and increased breast cancer risk (Source – www.safecosmetics.org).

I want to maintain my skin and I am in my sixties?

I am in my 40s which La Mav products are the best for me?
As the skin ages, the first sign we see is increased dryness due to breakdown of the supportive network -Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen and Elastin. What causes ageing?
Skin ageing is natural and occurs due to many factors. They may be external (environmental e.g. pollution, UV exposure etc.) or from internal origin (hormonal imbalance, stress, diet etc). Whatever their origin, they lead to a loss of skin elasticity. Internal ageing begins at 20-25 years of age, but external ageing begins way before that due to the environmental stresses. What does ECOCERT mean?

What is the main difference between ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ ingredients?
The ‘natural’ ingredients are unaltered, untreated, are not artificial and have nature as the ingredients’ source.
An organic certification body ensures that the organic ingredients are cultivated without using synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and other synthetic chemicals.

Why are natural and organic products better for the skin?

What is OFC?
OFC stands for Organic Food Chain, it is one of the certifying bodies in Australian that verifies and certifies that products are fit for the Certified Organic seal. The Australian Organic Standard is known to have one of the strictest standards in organic classification. Only products that meet these standards are certified to bear the Organic seal. Is La Mav safe to use whilst pregnant?
La Mav products are safe to use during pregnancy. The essential oils used in La Mav products are used at a low percentage. However, as with all products used, if you are unsure, please check with your physician or GP if you are unsure about using any essential oils or ingredients whilst pregnant.
What should I expect when I start using La Mav products for the first time?

Which Anti-ageing ingredients are used in La Mav’s Anti-ageing range?
1) Hyaluronic Acid is produced naturally by the body and provides continuous moisture to the skin. With age, the ability of the skin to produce Hyaluronic Acid decreases causing the skin to wrinkle and sag. By using it topically in a serum or moisturiser, much of the moisture loss can be replenished, revitalizing dry, mature and ageing skin. To be effective, the correct form of Hyaluronic Acid and sufficient quantity needs to be used. La Mav uses a natural source of hyaluronic acid to maintain and regulate optimum hydration level, which increases the skin’s firmness and helps reduce the wrinkles and fine lines.
